RUFFLE, VOLANTE EN INGLÉS
The ruffle (the English translation of the Spanish word ‘volante’) is usually associated with feminity, but its origins are actually unisex. As mentioned in Racked, ruffles first came on the scene in the 16th century in Spain when men slashed their sleeves to reveal the fabric beneath. They also wore ruffles as neckties to hide their bare chests as they wore shirts with open necklines.
El ‘ruffle’ (palabra inglesa para decir ‘volante’) está asociado normalmente con la femeninidad, pero su origen realmente es unisex. Tal como mencionan en Racked, los volantes aparecieron por primera vez en el siglo 16 en España cuando los hombres cortaban sus mangas para hacer otros tejidos visibiles que tenían debajo. También se ponían volantes en forma de corbata para esconder sus pechos ya que las camisas llevaban tenían bastante escote.

What other ways can you say ‘volante’ in English?
There are different ways that you can say ‘volante’ in English but the most common word used in the fashion industry is «ruffle». Many fashion designers tend to say ‘flounce’ and while this isn’t incorrect, it’s true that it isn’t as commonly used.
